Description / 背景:

Increased air pollutant and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are causing many climate change challenges, such as rising temperature, melting polar ice, rising sea levels, and declining biodiversity. They also adversely affect public health, local ecology, and the global climate. In many cities, the major source of particulate matter (PM) is road traffic, exacerbated by traffic congestion. The development of new transport management strategies focusing on emissions mitigation is thus an urgent and yet extremely challenging task for researchers and engineers from both the environmental and transport sectors.

Reducing GHG emissions and achieving net-zero carbon dioxide emissions, i.e., carbon neutrality, have been put forward by many countries around the world. The transportation sector is one of the largest contributors to GHG emissions. Globally, transportation accounts for more than 20% of GHG emissions each year. Decarbonization of the transport sector would thus help create a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable future for everyone. Thus, it is important to reduce the air pollutant and GHG emissions from the transportation sector.

This webinar will focus on policy, new technologies, and innovative methods for low-carbon transport development and evaluating the impacts on air pollutant and GHG emissions reduction. Some new clean and low-carbon transport systems, developed by using emerging technologies, will be discussed. In addition, some experiences on designing and implementing low-carbon transport policies in megacities around the world will be discussed. In this webinar, we will discuss different aspects of the interaction between low-carbon transport and climate change, from localized to global impacts. We have invited six distinguished speakers on the respective areas to share their experiences, ideas and thoughts on this topic.
